Celebrating Pride in the Caribbean

June is the month for honoring, remembering, and celebrating, not just here in the US but all over the Caribbean! Across the Caribbean, each island has its unique flavor and style to celebrate. I love traveling to the islands, and head down for Pride makes the trips even better.

This week, we explore some of the best Pride festivals in the Caribbean.

Key West

We’ll start by traveling down to the most Southern Point of mainland US to Key West which has always been an open and accepting atmosphere. Pride is celebrated June 2nd through the 6th with a calendar that will keep you going long into the night. The festivities kick off with a Naked Pool Party (Men Only), one of many throughout the week. If pool parties aren't your style, check out the Glow Party. Then finally, wrap up the incredible Pride with the Rainbow Roast where "Everybody Gets Poked" featuring DJ Mira and special Drag Queen performances.

Puerto Rico

Traveling to the Southern Caribbean, Pride happens year-round in Puerto Rico, with the most prominent events culminating in June. The first stop on Puerto Rico's Pride is San Juan, which takes place the first weekend in June. The main action happens at Escambrón beachside park where you can party La Vida Loca with Ricky Martin and Pink. Then turn it up a notch with dance parties, drag shows, and even more live music in Boquerón, Cabo Rojo week-long Pride the second week of June.

Bermuda

While technically in the Atlantic, Bermuda celebrated its first-ever Pride in August 2019, which gives the community a lot to celebrate! Bermuda has come a long way over the last decade and has become a very welcoming destination. This year the country will be continuing their tradition the last weekend in August. Bermuda’s Pride parade is one unlike any other. With over 6,000 attendees at their first parade and local businesses donating more than $10,000 to support OUTBermuda.

Curacao

We’ll finish our tour and head to the "C" of the "ABC Island," Curacao, a Dutch colony with its Pride founded in 2013. Curacao celebrates Pride in September, with the main festivities happening the last week of the month. The perks of Pride on an island means the celebrations range from boat to beach parties and a pride walk to the infamous white party. Celebrating Pride in Curacao will be an experience unlike any other!
